Mom Goes Into Labor On Halloween, Almost Faints When ‘Joker’ Walks Into Delivery Room

When Justin and Brittany Selph imagined welcoming their baby into the world, I’m sure they thought of a lot of different things. One thing they didn’t imagine was baby Oaklyn being delivered by the Joker (of Batman fame)!

Why would they? Oaklyn was due to be born on November 5. The couple figured they would have a relatively uneventful Halloween with their two older children and then prepare to meet their baby a few days later.

But as anyone who has ever had a baby knows, Mother Nature runs on her own timetable. Brittany woke up the morning of October 31 to her water leaking and she knew it was the big day.

The couple checked into the hospital around 12:30 p.m. and waited for their doctor to arrive, but when he walked in the door, he gave the Selphs quite the shock!

Their doctor had already put on his costume for Halloween, complete with creepy Joker facepaint!

“We found it very humorous and a little exciting we would have a baby delivered by the Joker,” Justin wrote in a now-viral Facebook post.

Brittany’s labor progressed slowly. The doctor came back to check on her around 4:00 p.m. and, when he realized it would still be a little while, told the expectant mother he was going to go home real fast to pass out some candy and change.

“Aw, we were hoping you wouldn’t change!” Brittany joked.

About four hours later, Brittany was ready to deliver. The nurse called the doctor back into the room and, to their shock and amusement, he was still in costume, ready to deliver their baby!

“There my wife is, staring the Joker straight in the eyes while delivering our baby,” Justin wrote when he shared the humorous pictures from that evening. “He was a great sport about the whole situation, and took photos with our family.”

The next morning when the doctor came back to check on Brittany and Oaklyn, he decided to keep the joke going.

“Sorry I couldn’t make it in last night,” he laughed, “glad to see the delivery went well.”

He even gave Brittany a card of congratulations signed, “Dr. Joker.”

Every birth is special and memorable, but this was one absolutely no one in the delivery room will ever forget!

“It’s not everyday you get to see Dr. Joker deliver a baby!” Justin said. “Our baby girl got to experience just that. Welcome, Oaklyn Saige Selph!”
